MONICA

After all the drama unfolded with Laila earlier, I decided to head to the bakery to take my mind off things. It was late in the afternoon, but I needed some time alone, and the bakery allowed me to get away from my family. Although I made up with my sister, it still bothered me that Miguel kept her illness a secret from me. Did he really think I was that evil that I would not help her once I found out she was telling the truth? I hated thinking about the whole situation, so I baked another batch of cookies.

Miguel had certainly been acting strange, ever since the whole Josie ordeal went down. I ignored his odd behavior at first, but I was no longer going to sit back while he did whatever. I was beginning to wonder if he had a little crazy in his ass too. Not that he had shown me any characteristics to make me wonder, he had always been quite gentle, but lately he was acting mysterious. And I felt Laila’s sickness wasn’t the only thing to blame.

“Hi Mrs. Santana, how are you today?” Jessica’s sweet voice loomed over my thoughts. I was happy to see the sweet girl. Looking at her reminded me so much of myself and I couldn’t figure out why.

“I understand honey. I remember those days. Just trust in yourself and remember to trust your first answer. I learned that very early,” I said hoping to ease her mind a little.

“Thanks Mrs. Santana... I will keep that in mind," she paused for a moment and looked at me with intense eyes. "Do you mind if I ask you something personal?” she asked. That piqued my interest.

“Sure, go right ahead,” I said.

“What would you do if you found out that the man you loved was married?” she asked. “I know you’re married, so it might be hard for you to answer this, but what if you were involved with someone who had lied to you about being married?”

“Hmm… that’s a toughie. It really depends on how long I had been involved and how long I didn’t know. In either case, I would be pissed and send his ass on, I would like to think,” I said in all honesty. I learned from Angela’s situation to never say what you won’t do.

“Yeah, you’re right,” she said as she continued sweeping the floor, but I wasn’t going to let her out this conversation that easy.

“Why
